How To Layout Your Suspended/Dropped Ceiling- Basic

Hi, Tim here with Strictly Ceilings. In this
session we’ll teach you how to layout a room for a suspended ceiling. The right way, the
first time. Laying out the dimensions of a ceiling before installation is one of the
most important aspects of suspended ceiling installation. Determine what type of material
it’s made out of and what direction the structural members run. In almost all cases residential
basements will have a wood ceiling joist system like this one. On commercial sites. When we
take our width dimensions we come up with 6′ 8″. Looking at the plan, we see that there
are 3 two foot squares. Let’s take another measurement and see what happens to the cove
if we leave the borders as is. The width of the cove is 3′ 2″. This means that if we leave
the border. You could then get 2 pieces of tile out of one on one side and the other
side you would only have a 10″ piece of scrap, cutting the amount of waste in half. You’ll
be running your main further away from the wall which will be more comfortable when gridding.
And this method will allow you to cut these tees here and then square the ceiling as you
go.
