Hi, I am Tamal Bhatacharya speaking on behalf
of Expert Village. Today’s subject is terracotta murals. This is an example of a terracotta
mural part. Some tiles incorporate landmarks of traditional Indian artwork. This is our
local visual tradition of murals after firing the terracotta. It is a simple milling, but
involves processing using traditional techniques. This tile is ready to imprint terracotta design.
We are creating a face. This is called relief work. The hair and facial features are made using
clay and added to the tile. Use your fingers to seal and smooth the features to the tile.
Common items, such as sticks, are used to create eyes and to scratch in decorative lines
or designs. You may also use your fingers to make impressions in your piece.
